Can I use tap water for my microgreens?
Room temperature tap water is absolutely perfect for your microgreens, no need for filtering.
There are however some things to consider:
- Very cold or very hot water can shock your plants, affecting their growth. Room temperature water is best.
- Avoid softened water, it can slow the growth of your plants. The Calcium and Magnesium in harder water is actually beneficial to your microgreens.
- Highly chlorinated water will have a negative impact on the growth of your microgreens, their appearance and taste.
GROW TIP: An easy and natural way to dechlorinate water (and bring it to room temperature) is to fill your watering container and leave it to sit for a day, uncovered. This will allow the chlorine to evaporate.
